In early 1990 Windows 3.0 were introduced followed by Windows 95, Windows ME and Windows 98. All those are legacies of Microsoft OS and today most of us are using Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Today if you buy any Desktop PC or notebook computer you’ll get Windows Vista bundled with the purchase.  The question is how does Windows Vista performs if compared to Windows XP?

I’ve been using Windows XP for the past 6 years and had encountered many downtimes such as system hangs, virus attacks, computer slowing down and in many instances it failed to boot. With the release of XP SP2 most of the problems are gone and I’m very satisfied with the stability of XP.

When Windows Vista was released I was skeptical to change my OS from XP to Vista and I kept using the same XP release with SP3. Usually it takes one to two years before any new OS platform to be stable after the problems were patched and service packs released.

If you do some findings on the web you’ll find that Vista came with lots of compatibility problems and the worse is the OS ‘eat up’ your computer resources which will slow down your computer performance.  Using Vista on a computer with 2.0 GHz processing speed and 1 GB of DRAM is not enough to render a satisfactory performance. You’ll need at least 2 GB DRAM to boost the performance.

Recently I had a chance to troubleshoot my brother’s PC who complained that his PC is getting slower and slower. The computer was ‘crawling’ during start-up and I just could’t do anything because it was too slow. I had to reformat and reinstall the OS from the built-in back-up image.

My advice is if you want to upgrade from XP to Vista just delay the upgrade for now and wait for the next Windows 7 release in 2010. Just keep using your XP because it renders a better performance than Vista.
